Food Poverty Fund - Apply for funding to tackle food poverty

5 Sep 2014 - 10:08 by michelle.foster

Manchester City Council are inviting not-for-profit organisations to apply for funding of between £5,000 and £50,000 to provide immediate food needs or other essential goods and services for people in serious poverty.

Applications are welcomed from across the City and should address emergency food provision alongside a broader package of support and activities that look to improve health outcomes for individuals and families, help people to acquire skills or meet a specific unmet demand for emergency food. Manchester City Council also welcome applications from organisations who provide services to address some of the longer term causes of food poverty.

A total of £400,000, is available across the city from this fund.

You can apply for funds to get support for a new service, or to help support or maintain an existing scheme.

You can apply on behalf of your organisation or, if you're working with another organisation, you can apply together.

Support should be in the form of food, goods or services rather than cash. Manchester City Council can't fund the purchase of vehicles or property, supermarket vouchers or, building renovation or repair costs.

Manchester City Council want a good mix of services across the city, so you're more likely to be successful if there isn't anything similar close by.

To apply you must:
• be a not-for-profit organisation (including voluntary, community and faith groups)
• be based in the area covered by Manchester Council, or mainly working with people who live in our area
• have written evidence that you have worked with Manchester residents in the last year
• spend the money by 31 March 2016
• be able to benefit anyone in the neighbourhood you're working in, not just a particular group
• account for any money you get and tell us what you've achieved with it

Deadline for applications: Friday 10 October 2014, 4pm
